Helium for florists, venues and event professionals
Helium has dozens of uses in as many industries, but domestically there's only one reason you'd buy a helium canister — for balloons. At Bottle Gases, our priority is quality, so our helium cylinders are perfect for this important job. Whether you need helium for latex party balloons (easily the most common reason) or for shiny foil balloons (perhaps the big letters spelling out a message to the guest of honour), we can fill your order.
Our canisters fill between 25 and 150 balloons depending on size — from small disposable canisters for 25 balloons up to a refillable 20L cylinder handling 150 or more. Larger foil balloons need 2–3 times more gas than standard latex, so always size up if you're decorating with letters or shapes. Latex balloons have a typical float time of 6–8 hours; foil balloons hold helium for several days. For regular event organisers or businesses, choose a refillable cylinder for better long-term value, less waste, and access to our eco-friendly gas refill programme.
Common questions
Compact FAQ content supports long-tail searches and answers buying objections before checkout.
How long will my balloons float?
Latex balloons 11 and 12 inches have an average flotation time of around 6–8 hours, depending on the balloon and room temperature. For extended float times, consider using hi-float, which can make them float up to 25 times longer.
How many balloons can a canister fill?
A small disposable helium canister fills up to 30 x 9-inch balloons. Larger tanks inflate up to 50 balloons or more, and our 20L refillable cylinders can handle 150 or more.
What if I have helium left over?
Store the helium gas canister in a cool, dry, well-ventilated indoor space with the valve closed and you can reuse it safely. Bottle Gases helium canisters can be stored as long as you need.
Should I use a disposable or refillable helium canister?
For one-time use events like birthdays, a small disposable helium tank for 25 balloons is ideal. Regular event organisers or businesses should choose a refillable helium cylinder for better long-term value, less waste, and access to our eco-friendly gas refill programme.
